How to Watch Hotstar with Friends during Lockdown

With the COVID-19 second wave going on in India, many college friends and colleagues are in their hometown and missing watching live streaming for their favorite sports. With IPL, Premier League, WTC, F1 Racing being streamed on the Hotstar, people would love to watch that with their friends.

I’ve looked into ways to watch Hotstar with friends online, and after trying several different “solutions”, I found one which works quite well: Flickcall

In order to use Flickcall, each person will need a desktop or laptop running the Google Chrome web browser.

To install Flickcall click “Download Flickcall” from the Flickcall website. This will take you to the plugin page on the Chrome Web Store. Click the “Add to Chrome” button to install it.

You’ll be prompted to install the extension in Chrome. Do that.

Now that the extension was installed, hop on over to the Hotstar website, log in, and start watching whatever you want. You will notice the Flickcall icon in the video, also on the upper right-hand corner of your browser.

Click the Flickcall icon, and a popup will appear to let you invite your friends to the party. Once you click the “Invite to party” button, the invite link will be copied. Then paste that URL into Whatsapp or whatever you use to chat with your friends.

When your friend or friends click that link, they’ll be taken to Hotstar and the video will start playing.

NOTE: If your friend’s default browser is NOT Chrome, they will have to copy and paste that link into Chrome instead.

You’ll know your friend is successful when an icon for them shows up in the chatroom. They’ll know they were successful when they see the chatroom.

And that’s about all there is to it! This second wave really sucks, but at least we can watch Hotstar and other OTT channels with our friends.
